Winter Centerpieces
by Badreya
If you live in a country where people decorate their homes, work places and stores with festive Christmas decorations you may start to feel that your home is a bit boring and drab. When looking for ideas, the important thing to remember as we are surrounded by Christmas decoration everywhere is that just because it looks Christmasy doesn't mean it has to be Christmasy.  Holly is nothing but a berry and Pine is a tree! It's the bows, ribbons, garland and lights that give it the Christmas look and feel.  I love to change the colors in a room throughout the year to give it a more seasonal feel and also to change the atmosphere.  I do this by changing the accent pillow covers and floral accents in the room. It's very simple and inexpensive.

In this arrangement I used Holly branches which are more readily available at this time of year and also come in different colors. I also used small silk Holly stems with leaves to accent the silk Hydrangea which I bought in red and brown with little touches of red. This was a very nice accent for the Hydrangea and also brought out the deep red that I like in them. I find it easiest if I stick to 2 colors when making arrangements. Remember the green in the leaves is going to be a third color and there is usually brown in the stem, so while it may sound boring it really ends up looking very classy. Simplicity is elegance!

I also made a small wreath using Holly and wire as a small centerpiece for a scented candle. The red brought some much needed life to my off white living room, the little candle  created a harmonious look between the 2 pieces and my room had a whole new feel to it. Definably not Christmasy and defiantly not drab. If I want a little romance I light the candle. What could be better than the smell of cinnamon on a warm cozy winter night!
