The Euphrates And The Mountain Of Gold

Is not He (better than your gods) Who has made the Earth as a fixed abode, and has placed rivers in its midst, (Qur’aan 27:61)

All Praise Be to the Supreme Creator Who carved the Earths’ surface giving it its variation from the mountains and valleys to the forests and deserts within the plains and plateaus. It is He Who brought forth the Earths’ water allowing it to surround the various landmasses as oceans filled with water. And it is He Who engineered and designed the water channels, allowing them to run downstream from the mountains and valleys to the lowlands below. With the rivers carrying water through the lands, Allah brought nourishment and life to the earth allowing its vegetation to flourish and grow.

When we look at the various continents we find rivers flowing amidst them, bringing water to the land as branching meandering water vessels, each area with its own distinct rivers.

From amongst the rivers within the Middle East we have the river known as Al Furaat or the Euphrates. The Euphrates originates from the highlands of Turkey where it flows southwest, through canyons and gorges, passing through Eastern Syria on its way to Southern Iraq. In Iraq it joins with its sister river the Tigris, forming the Shatt Al Arab which empties its water into the Persian gulf. Along its entire course the Euphrates is almost 2800km long.

We may have heard the expression ‘Cradle of Civilisation’ or ‘Mesopotamia’ which were names and attributes ascribed to the area of land defined and supplied by the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. Many empires flourished in this region including the Babylonian and Assyrian Empires. The Roman Empire reached its East and the Persian Empire reached its West at the river Euphrates.

The Jewish Rabbis and Politicians still continue to have interest with this river, believing it to define the boundary of their promised land. The Christians talk about the Euphrates in reference to its drying up before the great battle before the end of time.

However Allah gave the Euphrates and its surrounding land to the Muslims and this is His Sunna as He allows the followers of the Prophets to inherit the lands. So the Jews and Christians lost control of the Euphrates and the Muslims inherited it. This is a cause of great envy amongst the People of the Book, however much they may try to hide it.

In addition to giving the Muslims this land as a bounty and favour from Him, Allah has made the Euphrates a sign before the commencement of the major signs of the Hour. Unlike the Major signs which have key events which will announce them, the drying up of the Euphrates will emerge as a sign from amongst the numerous general minor signs. This is especially concerning given the fact that in our time the general minor signs are rampant and raging, gaining momentum and ever bringing the texts of the Ahadeeth to life.

Abu Hurairah narrated that Allah’s Messenger said, ‘Soon the Furaat will disclose the treasure of gold,’ (saheeh of bukhaari; saheeh of muslim)

From the Authentic Ahadeeth we know that the Euphrates river will dry up and uncover a treasure of gold.

Abu Hurairah narrated that Allah’s Messenger said, ‘Soon the Furaat will uncover a mountain of gold.’ (saheeh of bukhaari; saheeh of muslim)

As for the amount of gold, then it will be huge for our Propeht informed us that the river would unveil a mountain of gold.

The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates and its water was dried up (Old Testament revelations 16:12)

As for the previous scriptures then we know they have been altered with truth mixed with falsehood. However in Revelations we find mention of the Euphrates drying up which is the truth as confirmed by our Prophet Muhammad.

Abu Hurairah narrated that Allah’s Messenger said, ‘Soon the Furaat will disclose the treasure of gold, so whoever will be present at that time should not take anything from it.’ (saheeh of bukhaari; saheeh of muslim)

We have been instructed to keep away from the gold when this happens and not take anything from it. Another text explains one of the reasons for this.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said, “The Hour will not be established until the river Euphrates uncovers a mountain of Gold and people with fight each other for it. From every one hundred people, ninety nine will be killed and each man will say, ‘It may be I who will be safe.’” (saheeh of bukhaari; saheeh of muslim)

The mountain of gold will bring bloodshed where only one out of every hundred men will survive. These texts refute the claims of those who claim the mountain of gold is symbolic. Rather we accept the texts of the Ahadeeth as they are, without changing their apparent meaning, and understanding that lives will be lost in the greed and chaos of the mighty gold rush.

From the Ahadeeth we do not know whether a part or all of the Euphrates will dry up. There is concern in Iraq that the lower portion of the Euphrates which joins the Tigris is vulnerable due to the utilization and distraction of the water upstream by the Turks and Syrians. Although there concern is somewhat legitimate and the Muslim countries are far from following the Sunna regarding the sharing of water, this does not prove in any way that the river will dry up in Iraq, uncovering the mountain of gold there. There is no correlation between this and that from the authentic texts. Instead we have to restrict the facts to the Ahadeeth and stop where our Prophet stopped, taking as our Aqeedah the reality that the Euphrates will dry up and reveal its mountain of gold with no firm knowledge of its exact location.

As for when this will happen, then we know from the collective texts that it will occur before the Major signs of The Hour approach. More specifically it will occur before the minor sign of the great battle of Syria, for after this fierce battle Dajjaal will appear, followed by the rest of the Major Signs. This sequence would fit with the descriptions found in the collective narrations.
