The Cold Wind from Shaam
From the collective texts of Ahadeeth it is clear that after Isa bin Maryam kills Dajjaal the Muslims will defeat the Jews, and once the Jews are defeated then the Fitnah of Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will spread until Isa supplicates to Allah and Allah destroys them completely. Thereafter birds with long necks will come and throw their corpses wherever Allah wills. This will be followed by a blessed rain which will wash the surface of the Earth and bring forth its vegetation and growths, until the Earth will sparkle and resemble its original sate when Adam was on the Earth. Even the Arabian peninsula will be full of gardens and rivers once more. During this time there will be peace and safety in addition to abundance of wealth and prosperity with no conflicts, envy or fighting. Isa bin Maryam will die during this period of prosperity and the Muslims will bury him and pray funeral prayer for him.
Subsequently the other major signs of the Hour will unfold, one after another in succession. From amongst these signs is the wind which will take the souls of all those who have even a mustard seeds weight of Emaan.
Hudhaifah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said, “Islam would extinguish just as the embroidery of a fabric becomes worn out so much so that no one would know what is fasting, prayer, sacrifice and sadaqah. And the Book of Allah would be taken away by night and no verse of it would remain on Earth. And a section of people, the decrepit old aged men and women would survive, who would say, ‘We have found our forefathers saying these words, Laa Ilaaha Illallaah so we also recite them.’” (sunan of ibn maajah)
During this time the righteous Muslims will pass away leaving only the elderly ones who know the expression ‘Laa Ilaaha Illallah, uttering it only because they heard their forefathers saying these words. They will not know salaat, siyaam and sadaqah. Allah will take away the Qur’aan and no verse will remain behind. The Ka’bah will be destroyed and no house of worship will remain behind.
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘Allah will send a wind from Yemen, smoother than silk, and it will leave no one in whose heart is an ant’s weight of Emaan.’ (saheeh of muslim)
Then Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Yemen and all those with an ant’s weight of Emaan- those who say Laa Ilaaha Illallaah without knowing Islam will die. The wind will take their breath away as the Angels extract their souls.
Abdullah bin Amr said that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘Then Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Shaam so that no one in whose heart is an ants weight of Emaan will remain alive, even if one of you enters the heart of a mountain it will chase him and kill him.’ (saheeh of muslim)
The wind will proceed Northward from Yemen until it comes from the direction of Shaam and this will be its steering course. It will continue to blow through the air until it captures all the souls harboring traces of Emaan.
Aaeyshah narrated that she heard the Messenger of Allah saying, ‘Allah will send a Tayyibah wind so that everyone who has an ant’s weight of Emaan dies.’(saheeh of muslim)
The wind has also been described as Tayyibah, describing how it is good and gentle, extracting the souls of those with traces of Emaan yet sparing the lives of others. It will not be a violent nor destructive, for those without Emaan will remain alive and survive it. The purpose of the wind is only to remove Emaan completely from the Earth just like Allah removed His verses of The Qur’aan and His houses of worship including Masjid Al Haraam.
Anas narrated that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘The Hour will not be established until there remains no one on Earth saying Allah! Allah!’ (saheeh of muslim)
After the wind passes, the most evil of people will remain behind with no one knowing the name Allah. No one will worship Allah during this time, not even by reciting Laa Ilaaha Illallaah.
Abdullah bin Mas’ood narrated that the Prophet said, ‘The most wicked of people will be living at the time the Hour will be established.’ (saheeh of muslim)
Hence the most wicked of people will remain alive with the coming of the Hour. They will enjoy the prosperity and commit grave indecencies including open sex in the streets without any shame or self respect. Even Iblees will come to them and say, ‘Don’t you feel ashamed?’ but instead they will say, ‘What do you order us to do?’ as is mentioned in the hadeeth of saheeh muslim.
Aaeyshah narrated that she heard the Messenger of Allah saying, ‘Allah will send a Tayyibah wind so that everyone who has an ant’s weight of Emaan dies, and the ones who are good for nothing will remain and worship that which their forefathers worshipped.’ (saheeh of muslim)
Aaeyshah narrated that she heard the Messenger of Allah saying, “Day and night will not cease until Laat and Uzza are worshipped.’ (saheeh of muslim)
Then Iblees will command them to worship idols and pure paganism will return with the idols of old being worshipped including Laat and Uzza. It is upon such despicable people that the Hour will commence with Israafeel finally receiving the permission to blow the horn.
