Inshaa Allah in this section we will be dealing with verdicts issued by various scholars. However the key theme will be to ‘Take from where the scholars took’ in order to eliminate Taqleed (blind following) and facilitate our understanding of the evidences. Indeed this was the methodology of the pious predecessors during the early years of Islam. Imam Ahmad (May Allah have mercy upon him) eloquently summarized this great principle when he said, “Do not follow my opinion, nor the opinion of Maalik, nor Shaafi’, nor Awzaa’ee, nor Thawree, but take from where they took” (imaam Ahmad, I'laam 2/302)
Fatwa by: Imaam Qataadah Ibn Diaa’amah (died 117AH)
Question:
What will be the condition of the people who indulged in Riba (interest) without repenting, on The Day of Judgement?
Answer:
They will be resurrected insane while suffering from seizures. (Ibn Abi Haatim)
Evidence:
Those who consume Riba will not stand except like the standing of a person beaten by Shaytaan into insanity. That is because they say, 'Trade is like Riba.' But Allah has permitted trade and forbidden Riba. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and refrains, he may have what has preceded and his affair rests with Allah. But whoever returns, those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein. (Qur’aan 2:275)
