There are three different types of Pearls: Natural, Cultured, and Imitation.  The most rare is the Natural Pearl because it comes from the depth of the sea without any human intervention except to retrieve by diving. Bahrain was known for the Best Natural Pearls in the World  and still  is known to have the Finest Natural pearls. Before the Oil industry took over this region, Pearls were the main source of income. When the Culture Pearls hit the market from Japan in the 1930'S, the cultured pearls soon began to take over the pearl industry because  the cultured pearl is much cheaper in  price and making them affordable to those seeking after them. Without being an expert on pearls you would not be able to tell the Natural Pearl from the Cultured Pearl. When x-rayed a culture pearl will have a small mother of pearl bead in the center surrounded by the Nacre.  The mother of pearl bead is a bead which is implanted into the oyster by a person. The Nacre is a substance secreted by the oyster in response to the irritant bead. Layers of Nacre are formed around the bead giving rise to a beautiful pearl. In contrast the Natural pearl will not have a bead center. Rather it will have  layers upon layer of nacre in response to a grain of sand irritant.

If you want to buy a Natural Pearl go shopping in Bahrain for it is illegal to sell Cultured Pearls there. The best natural Pearls are the very white ones with lots of luster and no creamy coloration.

A Gift of Pearls
He has let loose the Bahrayn (two waters) meeting together.

Between them is a barrier which none can transgress. Then which of the blessings of your Lord will you deny?

Out of them come pearl and coral. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny?
